My kids got the Passenger Train (60197) and Cargo Train (60198) sets for Christmas this year, and I thought the track layout needed a station, so...

Welcome to Brickston Station – the grand central station serving Brickston City, and terminus of the main railway lines serving the city and outlying areas.

Drawing inspiration from some of London's imposing station entrances, this MOC also features a distinctive wooden canopy with instantly-recognisable daggerboard fascias – coloured in the black, white, and sand-green livery of the current franchise company.

Passengers arriving at – or embarking from – Brickston Station will discover a range of convenient services and amenities to enjoy. These include:

The newspaper stand, carrying a wide range of daily broadsheets, tabloids, and magazines.
The cafe and patisserie, offering freshly-baked snacks, sweets and treats – and a selection of loose-leaf teas, soft drinks, and piping hot coffee.
The wood-panelled ticket office, where friendly staff are always happy to help customers plan their journey and find the best ticket prices.
The canopied waiting area, where passengers can sit in comfort, sheltered from the elements – make sure to enjoy the seasonal pot plants!
The original station clock, built in 1919 by Joseph Thwaites-Reed & Sons, and still keeping perfect time today. Meeting "under the clock at Brickston" is a traditional rendezvous.
The grand entrance stairs, clad in sparkling Portland Stone, and flanked by the twin-light lampposts that have stood there for a hundred years.

A few things to note about this MOC:

I've made use of stickered tiles from several sets (including parts which aren't listed in Bricklink Studio's database) – including the "Brickston" signs, "Used Tickets" container, and onward destinations board from the London Bus (10258) set. I haven't created parts for these in the Studio digital file, so you'll see blank tiles instead – when it comes to the newspaper stand, I suggest using whatever 2x2 decorated tiles you have in your existing collection! See the photos for examples of the stickered parts I used when building this myself.
I've built this very much to make use of our own Lego collection – you might want to look over the build and substitute cheaper parts in some places, as I've not designed for cheap part purchasing!
The creeper climbing up one side of the station building requires for some of the plant and leaf parts to flex (which they do very comfortably), but Studio isn't happy, so there are a few 'collisions' showing up.
I've not created proper instructions for this build – so it's just the digital Studio file at present. If you've got the parts and want to build this, let me know and I'll gladly put the time in to create PDF instructions!

  Hi Thomos – thanks for your question! This MOC isn't built on a baseplate, otherwise it doesn't line up with the trackbed (unless you've laid all the track on baseplates too). So I'm afraid I don't know how big a baseplate you'd need – I haven't tried putting it on one myself!
  
  That being said, I'm certain a 32x32 wouldn't be big enough! The platform is made from five 16x6 plates, and four 4x6 plates, so it's a bit shorter than 96 studs in total length (due to the angled ends).

Love all the detail on the ground floor. The steep high roofing reminds me more of French trains stations like La Rochelle. I see you have left lots of potential for builders to create their own custom 1st floor, thinking restaurant and bar while pushing the striped canopy more towards the tracks.

  Thanks for the kind words ambr! Yeah, the steep roof was a bit of a compromise – it's more Parisian than London... I like your ideas for the first floor: I ran out of inspiration at that point, but I love that idea of a restaurant and bar – maybe with a balcony to look down over the entrance steps?

What a great and fun station building! We've been touring parts of Great Brittain by train several times, and visited London even more often, and I really recognize some of the typical elements found at some of the stations we visited. Also I love the ambiance in general in your station. Great work! And seems like you had a lot of fun building this as well. My own city already has a station -- it's on my Rebrickable page -- but who knows, in future, I might build another one, and take inspiration from your design. Thanks for sharing!   Thanks vanderlegofan! I'm glad this was recognisable to you – that's a good sign! I usually don't bother with interiors and things, but we built the Elf Club House (10275) over Christmas as a family, and I really appreciated how thoughtful you can be with that – and how much it elevates a build, so I tried it out on this MOC.
  I definitely had a lot of fun building this – and then my kids had a brilliant time playing with it, stopping the trains at the station, and so on.

    Still have to try my hands on some real interior design myself. I did a bit of it for the 1st floor of my own station, since that floor of the building held the ticket office, waiting area and such, but left the 2nd and 3rd floors empty, except for the staircases -- here was the appartment of the station's chef, and although I had blueprints of its layout, I left all furniture and all that out, and saved myself the bricks. However, by having build some of the official modular buildings from Lego, I must admit that I will definitely try to add some of it yet. Similar experience as you had while building the Elf Club House, I suppose -- it's great to see how detailed people can design a chair or a bed, just with a few bricks! And like you said, it really gives any build that finishing touch. Thanks! --Christian

  I've just visited your profile and when I saw the Vught station MOC I immediately recognised it – as I spent ages looking at it a few weeks back: it's utterly brilliant! When I uploaded my station MOC to Rebrickable I went through looking at some of the other stations, and yours is undoubtedly one of the best.
  Now I'm incredibly flattered and honoured that you commented here – your station is hands-down better than mine: I wish I'd seen your MOC before building Brickston Station, as I would have 'borrowed' a lot of your brilliant ideas! The roof is superb, and the textured bricks supporting the front of the platform look so good. Congratulations on a truly incredible MOC 👏

    Thank you!! What a great compliment to receive! :-) Really appreciate it. I think both our stations are as good as they come, both in their own right. Yours definitely has the most detailed interior, it has a historical grandeur over it, and let's not forget its playability. Mine is more precisely designed after a real life building, although I made some design choices, to let it fit into my city and track layout. However, as for its architecture, I noticed that it really appeals to a lot of people. Perhaps it looks a lot like how many people believe a train station building 'should' look like, with the larger middle section, and the smaller wing parts. I like this typical architecture a lot -- very 'simple', but in all its simplicity very stylish, with a very good use of building in geometrical modules, and using decorative elements only to support those, if that makes sense. The roof gave me some puzzles by the way -- glad you like it -- and please feel free to borrow any of the ideas in my design, if you can use them. Thanks again for your comment! Honestly, I let my girlfriend read it -- she's a huge London fan -- and she immediately suggested we would catch the train and thank you in person haha -- small chance with all travel restrictions at the moment, but it was a nice thought. (Actually my first design on Rebrickable was a London red telephone box, sort of in honour of her favorite city. Either way, it isn't my intention to write you a book. Enjoy your day!)

      I loved reading about the standardised architecture for Dutch station buildings, and I'm impressed that the design managed to be so functional and not ugly! It's a great testament to the architect that it appeals to so many people (as you say: it looks 'right' for a station). You've done a phenomenal job translating that detail so faithfully into your MOC, and it has tremendous character.
