Quick release after the last one (Private Astronomical Observatory), and this time I entered a little bit into the area I am not used to visit. Cars. When you look at it then you will surely notice it's not a standard vehicle, but rather a militaristic one, but ok, let's look deeper into it.
The base for me this time were a group of half-track vehicles constructed mostly during World War II. There are not quite a lot of them designed right now. I would even say they are not built at all (the reason is that fully tracked vehicles are now much more useful on the battlefield)! The final effect is not an ideal reconstruction of any historical half-track vehicle, and that's why my creation is called "truck" instead of a particular model (like M5A1 or something).
There were few tries of making half-tracks before on Rebrickable (one made of 42139+42140 is really worth mentioning, because it's pretty, complex and also powered up; other one was made for the set I used for this MOC, 42148, but I don't personally like it, because it's weird), but if we were looking for some built under the 500 parts limit, then it's really hard to find a reasonable one. And that's why I decided to fill this hole.
This model is a combination of two 2023 small sets: 42147 Dump Truck and 42148 Snow Groomer. Conjoining these two models together was a difficult challenge, because of one very important reason - spread of colours. Dump Truck was designed mostly with two unique colors: Bright Light Orange and Dark Blue, while Snow Groomer used mostly Black and Red. Both sets used Light Bluish Gray and Dark Bluish Gray, and Snow Groomer had few Blue parts. That makes a total of seven colours that have to be managed somehow in the model, and if we look for visual consitence, then, hmm, it's not an easy task. Finally I managed to construct a model that I think hid some of the unwanted colors, while showing off the desired ones (with grouping them in particular sections of the vehicle). I hope you will like it.
This model uses over a 91% of provided parts (as always including spare ones). They are also spread out almost evenly between both models: 49.9% from Dump Truck and 50.1% from Snow Groomer:
Functionalities: Model has few manual functions, partially shared with the Dump Truck: 1. Tipping: it's a similar function like in the Dump Truck, but uses a unique 32293 Technic Link from Snow Groomer. The method is not ideal, because the mentioned link in its final position delicately colides with the red 32140 Technic L Beam, but it's not dangerous for the bricks, so you can easily ignore it. Also the cargo bay is bigger than in the source model:
2. Turning: system is almost fully borrowed from Dump Truck with only some cosmetic changes in the upper part, and few delicate color deviations:
3. Opening the hood: you can open the hood to see the "completely fake engine" underneath. Mostly a visual thing:
Notes: - tracks are not at the same level as the wheels (wheels are a bit lower), but everything works fine; - both sides of tracks are joint together (no differential); - turning angle is very low, but hey, it is only a model; - technic link used for tipping can delicately collide with red beam inside the cabin, but even though it works well;

I did a half-track of my own, actually
I like how pleasant the building experience was, as it really felt like official Lego instructions
The addition of the stickers from the dump truck compliment the model nicely as well
Posted a few pictures to go with it (even one with all the leftover parts in the back)
