Minifigure Parts Naming and Numbering Standards

Here you'll find all the information you'll need to either help you name and number a part for a New Part Submission, or help you navigate the complicated world of minifigure parts.

Heads

To be consistent heads should follow the this naming standard when describing details:

Minifig/Minidoll Head Character Name, Eye Area Description (Eyebrows/Eyelashes/Mask/Glasses/Eyes), Mouth Area Description (Lips/Teeth/Facial Hair), Extra Details Description Print.

When a head has two expressions we call it Dual Sided and it gets tagged that. The name of the head must describe both faces.

Minifig/Minidoll Head Character Name, Eye Area Description, Mouth Area Description, Extra Details Description, Face 1 Description / Face 2 Description Print.

Other things to note:

Terms for Stud Type, Gender, Theme, and any possible Non-Human element (Alien etc...) should not appear in the name. They need to be added as Tags by an Admin Team member.
Character Names should only be the main name for the represented character not any specific detail for that version of the character. For example NRG Cole should just be Cole. When a head is used by 4 or more distinct characters the names get removed from the Part Name and added in the Part Notes instead.

Head Part Numbers

A print number for a head is created by using the master part number (3626c for modern solid colored heads) with the addition of 'pr' for Print and lastly a four digit number which is taken from the official LEGO name when known. If not known we assign it a number starting 9999 and working backwards finding the next available number. Minidoll Heads follow the same methodology.

Lower Parts

Due to the inventorying differences between Rebrickable and BL the names cannot simply be copied over. There are now quite a variety of Minifig and Minidoll Lower parts.

Notable Minifigure Lower Parts:

Assemblies with matching legs see parts 970cXX, where XX is the color of the Legs.
Assemblies with different colored legs please see parts 970lXXrYY, where XX is the color of the left leg, and YY the color of the right leg.
Assemblies with multi-color injections ('Boots' Patterns) see parts 970cXXpatYY, where XX is the color of the top of the legs, and YY the color of the boots
Short legs see parts 41879XprXXX
Short legs with multi-color injections Boots see parts 16709patXX

All varieties should follow the same basic naming standard. For parts that are not listed below find the 'PLAIN' version of the part and follow it's naming standard.

Start with the following:

For parts with standard Hips and Legs: Legs and Color Hips
For parts with a Peg Leg use: Left Leg, Color Pirate Peg Leg, and Color Hips
For parts with different colored legs use: Hips and Color Left Leg, Color Right Leg

Then depending on the part type end with the following:

For regular Legs (970cXX or 970lXXrYY) use: with Description Print
For Mulit-color Injection parts use: with Color Boots Pattern and Description Print

The naming standard should be consistent within the lower part variety. Being with: Minidoll Lower Part Type Description, Details Print

Upper Parts

Torsos are inventoried by Arm/Hand color. So all White Arm, Yellow Hand Torsos are listed together, and prints of this Torso get the Plain entry as its Print Relations (NOT the Null entry 973c00).

Minidoll and Microdoll torsos use the color of the neck as the part color.

The following are numbering standards to use for Torso Types.

Standard Arms and Hands 973cXXhXX - 'c' relates to Arm color, 'h' relates to Hand color.
Dual Molded Arms 973gXXcXXhXX - This one's complicated. The 'g' refers to the Upper Arm color, 'c' refers to the Lower Arm color, 'h' refers to the hands. So Light Flesh Lower Arms with Black Upper Arms (Sleeves) and Yellow Hands is 973g03c02h01.
Dual Molded Odd Arms and/or Hands 973hXX - The 'h' number is numerical and has no other meaning. Due to the incredibly complex nature of these parts (and luckily the rarity of them) these are treated as single parts.
Odd Arms or Hands: Depending on what's odd. The numbers are numerical and have no secondary meaning:
- Odd Arms AND Odd Hands - 973dXX
- Odd Arms with Matching Hands - 973eXX
- Matching Arms with Odd Hands - 973fXX
Notable non-standard Arms and Hands (eg, hooks, robot arms, bird winds, etc...) either their LEGO Design ID or a variation on 973. Here are some examples:
